NewsTech

Shared services & discounted software for independent media

SaaS costs are quietly draining independent newsrooms — an estimated €25,000— 100,000 a year for a mid-sized outlet. NewsTech is a curated marketplace that gives verified independent media and non-profits access to enterprise-level software discounts and shared operational infrastructure they couldn't negotiate alone.

  • Reader revenue management— CRM, mailer and analytics tools
  • Editorial & content tools— e.g. SmartOcto and editorial analytics
  • Financial management— e.g. Xero and finance tooling
  • Back-end & distribution— CMS and website-builder platforms
  • Workplace management— e.g. Zoom, Monday, Asana
  • Anti-censorship tech— restricted to a narrow group of vetted users

Plus add-on services: vetted providers for the professional services outlets need but can't staff alone, from bookkeeping to legal support. Unlike general nonprofit platforms, NewsTech is media-specific — open to verified outlets and non-profits alike, with group- level bargaining power no single newsroom could get on its own.

FAME

Al-supported media content analysis at scale

Al Media Analytics is The Fix's Al-supported research tool for systematically analyzing media content at scale. It helps donors and clients move beyond anecdotal impressions by assessing what outlets publish, how they frame key issues and political actors, which themes and genres dominate their coverage, and whether their output shows signs of bias, polarization, political alignment or external influence.

The approach combines large-scale Al analysis with expert-designed methodology and human validation — machines do the volume, people vouch for the judgment.
