The Fix started in 2019 as a small consulting team that couldn't find the industry research it needed — so we built it ourselves. Today it's both things: The Fix Research & Advisory, working with publishers, donors and implementing organizations across Europe and beyond, and The Fix Media, a trade publication read by a community of 3,000+ senior media professionals.
Since then we've delivered 40+ consulting and research projects for 50+ media organizations and funders. We helped Hromadske nearly quadruple commercial revenue during a turnaround. We've trained 309 media managers from 20+ countries through the SSE Riga media management programs. Our sector studies with JX Fund, Thomson Reuters Foundation and others have been cited by The New York Times and the Reuters Institute. And when Russia launched its full-scale invasion, we co-led a campaign that raised around €3M for dozens of Ukrainian newsrooms.
The sector we work in doesn't get calm years. Funding models break — USAID's shutdown was only the loudest recent case. Platforms rewrite the rules; audiences move. So we lead the transformation. Let's work on yours.

Our founding team trained at McKinsey and INSEAD — and ran newsrooms through revolutions, war and exile. That combination is the method: Western consulting rigor, plus the Eastern European habit of transforming under pressure, with small budgets and no stable ground.
It's also why we work where most consultancies won't. Independent media in difficult markets is supposedly a sector without money. The 50+ organizations we've worked with — and results like Hromadske's near-4× revenue growth — suggest otherwise:the economics can work, if someone does the work.

We know that sustainable media businesses are vital for maintaining independent journalism and public accountability. Our collaboration with The Fix Team has been one of the pillars in delivering on this mission, allowing us to merge academic rigour with practical, modern industry insights.
Together, we have collaborated closely on our Future Media Management projects - ranging from our four-week Mini-MBA for top media executives to intensive management training for mid-level leaders. Through these programs, we have successfully trained ~ 300 media managers from 20+ countries, equipping them to navigate an increasingly complex media ecosystem. A highlight of this partnership is the delivery of the Crisis Leadership Simulation, which provides newsroom leaders with hands-on, realistic practice in managing intense operational and strategic pressure.
